Setting up a new office is often a daunting task to some business owners. Organizing an existing one is even more of a scare to others. Years of papers, trinkets and other clutter items make it almost impossible to find things or be organized.

The first thing is to locate the main area where you work - usually a desk - and make a list of items needed on a daily basis. For some this will be things like a stapler, phone, pens, computer and paper. But some things like photos, globes, printers and other items can easily be moved to make more room.

Move all items not used on a daily basis to another part of the office or even another room such as a copy room.

A useful office item is one of those inbox and outbox along with file cabinets. An office cannot seem to have enough file cabinets. But these are only as good as those who file the papers in the proper order. Be sure to set a schedule such as one time per week to file all papers as it can easily get out of hand. Just think of one full month of papers that you have not filed and there goes a whole Saturday.

Archiving older documents is also another way to organize an office. Many offices archive two years and before in cardboard file boxes in case they need to refer to them. These file boxes hold folders just like a cabinet and most can be stacked several boxes high.

Getting organized also includes setting up things like a planner. These small books can help even the most proficient person by having one central place for phone numbers, appointments, business cards, and notes.
